Wallpaper tub paste – Solvite Light and Luxury
Martin Dunn hangs a lot of fine wallcoverings and is careful to specify the correct wallpaper tub paste. Solvite Light and Luxury to the rescue on this short notice job!
Last Friday I had a last minute call to hang some wallpaper. It was for an interior designer who I do a bit of work for. It shouldn’t have been starting for a few weeks but needed to be brought forward.
I turned up on the Thursday to have a look at the job for the first time and hang the lining paper.
The finish paper was a very nice non-washable paper from Clarke and Clarke – almost like a handprint. The designer had very kindly provided the paste – a PVA-based tub adhesive.
“You cant use that on this paper” says me, “it will mark the front.”
So I ring round usual suppliers for Beeline or Albany green lid tub paste, as this is what I would usually use on this type of paper. As it was last minute, of course, no one had any in stock.
I was stuck until someone suggested Solvite Light and Luxury tub paste.
Now I ain’t no fan of Solvite, but because I was desparate and it was in stock, I gave it a whirl.
It was suprisingly good!
Anyone else used it?

Martin has been a specialist decorator for many years, and is expert in most traditional decorative finishes, and wallcoverings. He also spent 7 years lecturing, and is one of only a few in the country who were qualified to assess the workmanship of professional decorators.

If you have used this particular tub paste, what did you think? I don’t expect too many responses as it isn’t widely available, but maybe it should be.
