Darren Slaughter: strategies to survive recession (for Painters)
I asked Darren Slaughter, online sales and marketing advisor to contractors in the USA, to share with UK painters and decorators his strategies to survive recession.
I was thinking along the lines of “America sneezes, Britain catches a cold“. Darren’s observations and advice based on what our N. American painting colleagues are facing / doing in the market downturn, definitely apply to painters and decorators (any business actually) operating in recession-hit UK.

I think Darren’s last point is a very poignant call – “don’t cut your marketing budget when you need it most!
And thinking about Traditional Painter, it was interesting (and reassuring) to hear him explain the importance of highlighting family run, or 3rd generation decorating company when offering your services. That is precisely the profile of all specialists associated with Traditional Painter. They have been in the business 20, 30 years, and the buck starts and stops with the front man of the business. I better make sure that is explained elsewhere, clear as day!
Darren has been a good friend to Traditional Painter and a couple of years ago did a thorough website review (with excellent advice – that I took onboard and acted on!)
He will call by the TP Forum from time to time, so if you have any questions on websites that generate sales, marketing online and offline, SEO and all that good web stuff, please post here.
And thanks again Darren for taking time out to record the video for us.
Please share it on Twitter, Facebook, or print it out for reference. Thanks.
