Martin Guest, Traditional Painter for Birmingham was asked to quote for a Hand painted oak kitchen near Barnt Green.
Oak kitchen painter Barnt Green
This is a typical scenario for Traditional Painter kitchen specialists. A client has a well made oak kitchen, which is extremely functional and still in good condition. Although it ticks all the boxes for practicality, aesthetically, it is just a little out of step with modern tastes.
What do you do, replace it or repaint it?
Martin Hand painted this oak kitchen for about a tenth of the cost of replacing it with a new one.
Preparation of this oak kitchen is meticulous
In Martin’s own words.
Firstly, the entire kitchen area was “sheeted” up with polythene and worktops and floors covered ready for the preparation phase. It is vital that the area of work is as clean and dust-free as possible.
The doors are degreased and sanded with industrial quality sanders, utilising the very best in dust extraction technology. This is not only great for the client and paint finish, but also, selfishly, me; no-one wants to work in a dirty, hazardous environment.
He primed it with high adhesion shellac-based primer. He finished with several coats of Farrow and Ball exterior eggshell paint, sanding between coats.
Modern kitchen painter, traditional approach
As with all the specialists associated with this site, Martin has a wealth of experience in all areas of decorating. Although he is a firm believer in the traditional approach to the trade, he has adapted his working practices to embrace new and improved versions of essential kit.
Think about the vast difference between conventional and modern sanding. Do you want a decorator with sandpaper and dusting brushes or one with a Mirka dust extractor and the Abranet sanding system? The approaches are completely different, as are the quantities of dust deposited around the house! Martin is a fully equipped modern specialist kitchen painter. In most scenarios, he is far more productive and cleaner than any old school decorator. See our hand painted kitchen service in full.
