Professional piano painter in SE London
Allison contacted Barry Thompson, Traditional Painter, back in June. She was looking for a piano painter in SE London to paint her childhood Bentley piano white. Can it be done? Certainly.
This post is hot off the press.

You paint kitchens, Barrie. How do you know how to paint a piano?
At Traditional Painter, we paint solid wooden kitchens worth up to £100,000, and we have painted all imaginable items of wooden furniture. In other words, we know all about painting precious and high value wooden items. We also understand our clients’ nervousness letting a painter loose on a valuable installation or heirloom.
In most respects a piano is no different to a kitchen.
- A piano is precious
- A piano is usually solid wood and needs a furniture grade paint system
- Thorough preparation with no dust is essential
- Pianos have a large piano hinge, as found on doors in many kitchen corner units,
- A piano is an eye-catching piece of custom made wooden furniture.
- When we finish the transformation, clients say, I wasn’t expecting it to look that good!
If you are in SE London or Essex, contact Barrie about your piano or kitchen.
We have any piano painting knowledge gaps covered
Over the last three years, we have built a growing bank of piano painting experience and expertise. Ron in Warwickshire has even sprayed a piano. And if there are any new piano painting quirks or tricks we ever need to know, we just ask our colleague in the W Midlands, Martin Guest, who has long studied the art of painting an upright or grand piano in situ!

Howwwww much?
To most, an unwanted piano is worth about £50 and is difficult to dispose of. But if you are one of the few who value your old piano, it reflects precious memories of a past family member or past time of life. £750 to £850 for painting an upright piano seems to be worth every penny. And we can paint it in any colour, really!
Imagine, the cheapest white grand piano to be had was £6000, so £1400 to paint their current instrument was great value.
What next?
To date we have painted several pianos mainly in the W Midlands, Warwickshire, E Anglia (Great Balls of Fire!) and now SE London. And we have recently been fielding a surge in enquiries from Yorkshire, the Home Counties and E Midlands. It seems that many people are anticipating more spare time on their hands over the coming year and want to get (back) into piano.
