Painted kitchen in Twickenham
This 7-door Painted kitchen in Twickenham was a DIY rescue project for Traditional Painter, Mark Nash. It was a small job. He had a gap in his schedule, and here it is rescued.

The clients had been trying to paint their kitchen during the Covid-19 lockdown. It hadn’t gone as well as they hoped. Could Mark help?

Painting this kitchen from the bottom up
We are still in the middle of the Covid-19 crisis and it is essential that any work I take on does not jeopardise the health and safety of my clients or myself. As a group, we Traditional Painters have compiled a Covid-19 working policy. I explained how I would tackle the job safely. With prices, colours and schedule agreed, I set off on the arranged date.
The substrate was mixed to say the least, but with some preparation and a first coat of the ever dependable Tikkurila Otex, I turned the project around. The rest is history.

When Mark arrived the all important primer coat was sticking well, but it hadn’t been applied as smoothly as hoped. In the trade they call that patchy effect shuttering. If you do not work quickly enough and fail to even out the paint, the overlaps can get out of hand.
Tikkurila Otex is an oil based adhesion primer that also provides a really solid and smooth base for topcoats. You can ask merchants like Holmans to tint the primer exactly to the finished colour. This really helps with the overall look, especially in darker colours.
The topcoats are a matt satin finish. Again, our suppliers are expert in colour matching our preferred paint to any colour that our clients choose.

Kitchen painting is not a one trick pony
When you work for a kitchen company they generally have their paint system and you apply it. Whilst we do paint new installations, Traditional Painter specialises in refurbishing older kitchens, where there are many variables. Mark in particular has evolved a range of specifications for different scenarios. What he used here would not necessarily apply to painting a bare pine kitchen, or a repainted kitchen or a lacquered or laminate surface.

If you are in West, SW or NW London and need a kitchen painter who knows exactly what he is doing, you should contact Mark Nash. These clients agree!
