This particular client in Athlone, Co. West Meath discovered My Hand Painted Furniture this way. We use the Facebook page as a relaxed first port of call. There are updates on recent & ongoing contracts, blog posts by me & others, info on kit, paint & anything related to the kitchen & furniture painting trade plus a bit of fun thrown in along the way.
When I got to the house, on a very wet day in the summer, I could tell the family had great taste in furnishings. The lady of the house showed me the furniture & the multi-coloured porcelain handles she had for them. She already had a Farrow & Ball colour chart & we chose some fantastic colours for a boy’s bedroom & the pieces in other rooms.
With the details agreed; price, deposit, time scale & start date, we left it at that… there was a 3 month waiting list at the time.

Seen above are some of the pieces that came back to the workshop. There was also a fitted wardrobe in the contract painted on site. We have the wardrobe, chest of drawers & bedside locker from the boys room, all pine, a bathroom cabinet, also pine, & a solid beach coffee table.

Clean with * Krud Kutter, Sand, spot prime knots with Zinsser B-I-N primer, 1 coat Tikkurila Otex, fill, sand, 2nd coat Otex, sand, 2 coats Tikkurila Helmi Matt…
The coffee table required 2 types of finish, the process is as follows…

- lacquered top – 1 coat sealer, 3 coats Tikkurila Kiva Lacquer)
- tape & mask the top
- 3 coats Zinsser B-I-N
