Marbled fireplace Roy Makin
Martin Dunn Traditional Painter in W Midlands had a call from Martin Guest saying that a client wanted her wooden fire surround marbled, to try and make it blend in better with the hearth. A marbled fireplace? Certainly.
The upshot of requirements and timescale and other work commitments meant it was time to bring on the super sub. Martin Dunn continues:
Unfortunately David Fairclough wasn’t available – late 70’s Liverpool FC reference there – so I called on Roy Makin instead.
Those of you who don’t know Roy, and a lot of people do, Roy is probably one of the best marblers and grainers in the country.
Don’t just take my word for it.
Roy has won numerous national competitions and his work is showcased on many of the decorating and faux forums on the Internet, under the name of Roy mak.
Luckily he was one of my tutors back in the eighties and we worked together on a few jobs in the nineties. And even luckier, is that I am still in touch with him!
So I put the client in touch with Roy. Here is his work before the fireplace unveiling
And as you can see from the close-up photos, I think it turned out alright.
At Traditional Painter we have multiple talented graining and marbling specialists to call on within the group, but if time is against us, or a client is out of our area, or someone else has a special trick up their sleeve, we will do our very best to help resolve a problem and call on super subs like Roy.
You are only as good as your last job, I believe is the saying that the trade like to throw around. Here, we like to think that actually means something!
Please share it on Twitter, Facebook, or print it out for reference. Thanks.
