Hand Painted Kitchen Blackheath London: This kitchen was a real challenge. Going from a dark walnut to white required 5 coats to cover, normally a primer tinted in the colour and two full coats of Helmi furniture paint would be more than enough. I did encourage the clients to pick a colour, as one, the kitchen had plenty of light and very high ceilings, and two, I don’t think white ever works on a kitchen. Just my personal taste but after painting kitchens for over 25 years I’ve never seen one I like. They had inherited the kitchen when they purchased the house and didn’t like the dark walnut, so wanted something completely different.
The carcass on this kitchen was unique as it took nearly as long to paint as the doors, which is very unusual and very challenging. With such big drops from ceiling to floor you have to move fast and with experience to avoid drying edges and runs, that’s why we always take the doors and drawers off and paint them horizontal, it’s easier and you can apply a lot more paint for greater depth.
