It is hard to find reliable hand painted kitchen and furniture specialists in the UK. But you just struck it lucky! The website was launched in 2009 and we established a UK wide independent kitchen painter network in 2011. Invitation-only, Traditional Painter members really know their stuff. We have published hundreds of examples that demonstrate advanced kitchen painting skills and attention to detail. Client testimonials also attest to a very high level of customer service.
Traditional Painter set the industry bar for a nationwide kitchen painting service. Any mention online of transforming orange pine or reviving tired oak kitchens, or the £100/door pricing formula, you heard it here first, really. It is no coincidence that Tikkurila kitchen paint has become the de facto kitchen paint in the UK over the last 10 years.
If you would like to deal with the specialists who have spent 10 years polishing up the principles behind a high end kitchen painting service, there is a trusted Traditional Painter in your area listed below.
Please note, only those listed below are recommended by Traditional Painter. They have been invited to showcase their skills on the website and only they have permission to use the Traditional Painter logo.
Members are also covered by our Alternative Disputes Resolution (ADR) agreement with the Dispute Resolutions Ombudsman licensed by Trading Standards. We are legally bound to follow their recommendations. If in doubt about who you are employing, contact Andy Crichton.

Why you can rely on our Kitchen Painters
All specialists recommended on TP are independent bona fide companies who have satisfied myself and trusted trade peers that they meet 3 criteria.
– one or 2-man businesses working at the top of their game
– an exceptional skill set
– focussed on painted kitchens and furniture.
Your idea of trusted recommendations, might not be mine!
– Traditional Painters have had to prove themselves to their peers, year after year. Many of our specialists have been in the trade for over 30 years. Most have worked the last 10 years plus just on kitchens and furniture.
– We have painted for the UK’s most prestigious kitchen companies with impeccable feedback. For many years, our members have had a rigorous and ongoing assessment of their abilities by people who know.
– Kitchen painting is not just a job. The common thread of all hand painted kitchen specialists here is that decorating is not a job, it is a vocation. After 30 years, we are still into the whole rubbing down and preparation and fancy finishing. That mindset is not shared by everyone in the decorating trade.
– Traditional Painter is well known as an innovative business. We have worked with many industry-leading companies in the UK and around Europe, helping develop new products and sharing our innovative approaches to kitchen painting and decorating in general. Our specialists are very well informed and do what they say on the tin.
– This site is heavily scrutinised by decorating professionals. The content stands up to scrutiny. The content reflects the work that the invited professionals actually do.
You cannot buy integrity. Traditional Painter is as much about honesty as good technique. As well as being talented craftsmen, current members have a high degree of integrity.
If you meet them, you will quickly see that they exhibit an extremely high level of professionalism. They are genuine, enthusiastic and fair-minded people to deal with. They want you to have the best job you ever saw and they know how to achieve it. As someone said after meeting a few TP specialists on a course:
…decorators who have quality in there DNA – open minded, thoughtful, very professional, and all round nice guys…(and gals)
TP members understand that you probably only know them from the website. If you are skeptical, they invite you to ask for references from clients.
What more can I say. If you are in the market for painting a new or existing wooden kitchen, please contact one of our hand painted kitchen specialists.
Explain what you are hoping to achieve and they will make it happen – without the high street overheads.
Prompt quotes, good communication, arriving on the agreed start date, working through to completion, fabulous end results. There is a lot of strength in depth behind Traditional Painters.
Re-painting a traditional wooden kitchen
A once lacklustre wooden kitchen in Yorkshire has been brought back to life by skilled Traditional Painter, Lee Simone in Yorkshire, one of our highly skilled hand painted kitchen specialists . All preparation and painting has been completed to a showroom standard. The use of accent colour helps bring out character in the woodwork, creating a kitchen that looks brand new for a fraction of the cost of new.
Lee Simone took this superb kitchen and following best trade practice, transformed it, and took it to a whole new level for his clients.
Transformation of mahogany kitchen
Richard Willott, Traditional Painter for Suffolk has been a kitchen painter for many years and was asked to transform this cherry and mahogany kitchen, situated in a tranquil Suffolk village. Despite the client’s doubt whether it was a feasible project, he knew it would work out very well – and so it proved.
As you can see from the before pictures, this was a very dark cherry / mahogany hardwood kitchen which seemed to suck any natural light out of the room. What a transformation. Very happy clients.
Feedback is always welcomed by the TP specialists, so they can gauge what their clients think about them! Promptness of the response to an initial enquiry; was the quote detailed enough? how was the end result?
Each craftsman also has a review section on their profile page. Thanks
Refurbish a kitchen: there are many angles to think about before deciding which way to go. Theses are the pros and cons based on many years experience seeing what works and what can turn out to be an expensive compromise.
Second hand kitchen: Did you know there is a market for buying and selling used kitchens? Instead of throwing your kitchen in the tip to make way for a new one, sell it and recoup some of the expense.
Upgrade your kitchen to sell your house: Before putting your house on the market, upgrade your drab wooden kitchen with a hand painted finish and remove a major obstacle to a sale.
