Hand painted kitchen in Norwich
Traditional Painter, Richard Willot, shares this account of a 2014 hand painted kitchen in Norwich. The end result is a beautiful and durable matt finish.
What a fantastic way to start the New Year with a kitchen repaint for previous clients of mine on the outskirts of Norwich. I first painted their solid ash kitchen back in 2009 on the recommendation of one of their friends.
This is their friend’s kitchen after I painted it. They liked the standard of my work and passed my details on.
Down to business
With all my hand painted kitchens, I firstly start prepping all areas, by masking around all units and fixed kickboards
I then roll out a width of lining paper and mask over the two edges. Having 55cm of protection around the units gives you the confidence that there will be no nasty spills.
The next job is to degrease all the units. For this, KrudKutter (which has since been discontinued and replaced with Fluxaf Pro Clean available online at MypaintBrush, is used with a green scourer pad. This combination really works to remove all kitchen grease.
Sanding
The next process is to sand the units and doors. On a repaint I use my Festool RTS 400 with a 240 grade sanding pad, which gives a light abrade without removing too much of the existing paintwork.
Spot priming
Particular attention is needed around the areas which have had the most wear and tear – fridge, dishwasher and cutlery draws etc.
For these areas I apply Alcro’s “Grundfarg tra” a primer with excellent adhesion properties on hard smooth surfaces.
Scandi paint finish
I finished with 2 coats of Alcro’s “Servalac Aqua Matt” which is available from Paint and Paper of Norwich and is tinted to the customer’s requirements, which happened to be an equivalent of F&B New White.
Which brush?
I was quoted on Twitter: “ now I am a Purdy man”
However, as mentioned I was using the Picasso the * fantastic 2″ Fox, (a British made brush available exclusively from MyPaintBrush)
Finally all the handles are replaced, all masking tapes removed and then a final check over.
Very happy clients.
TESTIMONY FROM CLIENT
Me telling you it is a lovely job only tells you half the story.
Many thanks indeed for painting our kitchen – for the second time. On both occasions we have been delighted by the results.
Your meticulous work has transformed our kitchen units. We would certainly recommend FXDecor to anyone wanting a high standard of finish at reasonable cost.
Kind Regards

Am I missing something? The pictures are of 2 different kitchens. Both gorgeous but not the same.
You missed nothing, eagle eyed painter! but I did, fire the editor. I have edited to explain (hopefully) that the grey kitchen is what earned Richard the recommendation to the owners of the new white kitchen.
