Barrie Thompson, Traditional Painter London, hand painted a kitchen in an interesting building in Camden
Last week my decorating road show had an appropriately automotive feel, as I found myself working on a former site of the Vinot Car company in Camden, northwest London. (They celebrated a centenary in June of last year).
The building has subsequently been transformed into residential flats for the commuter community of the neighbourhood, and I had the task of modernising a 10 year-old wooden kitchen with a fresh, hand painted finish in an old favourite, Manor Cream.

The units were thoroughly prepared with Krud Kutter Gloss Off, followed by two coats of Tikkurila primer.

Extra coverage was required over the cooker hood where the unseasoned back of the wood had absorbed grease over the years and was therefore more prone to ‘bleed through’ staining.
Two topcoats followed.

Due to two small children and the fact that the only opening large sash window had been painted shut, meant no chance of fresh air, so, no oil based primer was used, just Tikkurila Furniture Feelings primer undercoat & topcoat from Holmans Specialist Paints applied – with great success.
The result was as classic as a Vinot –Deguingand car.
Barrie Thompson is our Traditional Painter for Camden and most areas of London North of the river. He also covers Essex.
